Project Updates 10/7/25 (Reposted from Tumblr)
I haven’t done a project update post in …. 2 MONTHS?! Whoopsie.
Here’s what I’ve been up to:
- My Linux Surface Project was a BUST … but here’s what I learned: MAKE SURE YOU KNOW THAT THERE’S TWO TYPES OF WINDOWS SURFACE PROS THAT WERE RELEASED. After HOURS of researching between both me and my dad (thank you dad for being so knowledgeable and willing to help me) we found that, yes, there are Linux ARMS made specifically for the Windows Surface generation, but not for Windows Surface 2. Which is what I have.
Now how were we supposed to know that. But before we came to this conclusion, here’s some other things I learned from this project: 1) Lots of command line practice while updating firmware, rebooting, changing files, etc. 2) How to flash a USB (and make sure your USB has way more storage than you need) 3) There are not always Linux ARMS for every device ever created … 4) WINDOWS 8 SUCKS. 4.1) SOMETIMES WINDOWS JUST DOESN’T HAVE BIOS ENABLED APPARENTLY!?!?! (I hope you can clearly tell this was the most frustrating and time consuming part of this process.) It took us most of this project just to ENABLE BIOS on the computer. (We did end up getting it to work though.) All in all, it was disappointing to say the least but I did get some good life lessons out of it. (Lessons in patience and remembering to do extensive research about your device.)
